HOW DOES LASER TATTOO REMOVAL WORK?
Laser treatment for tattoo removal involves using a high-intensity light beam to break up the pigment colors in tattoos. The laser treatment session starts with a consultation to determine the type of ink and skin color.
The technician will then use a specific laser wavelength that targets the ink particles. Each laser treatment session even for small tattoos typically lasts between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size and complexity of the tattoo. Multiple sessions are usually required for complete removal, as the laser needs to break down the ink in layers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE TATTOO REMOVAL PROCESS
The tattoo you thought was a good idea at the time may be one of your biggest regrets today. Maybe it’s faded beyond recognition and you’ve grown tired of seeing it on your skin. What was once a permanent decision before has become reversible as you can now have that tattoo removed anytime you wish at Total Skin and Wellness.
Tattoo Removal is a Gradual Process
Several factors play a role in the length of time it will take to completely remove a tattoo from your skin. The Asclepion PicoStar® is one of the most advanced, state-of-the-art lasers in existence, effective at deconstructing the ink from the tattoo, breaking it down into small fragments via ultra short pulses of light. The amount of ink, the colors, and the size of the tattoo can dictate how many sessions are necessary to make it fade away and remove it in full.
Each session breaks the ink down into smaller fragments until they can be discarded through the body’s natural shedding process, flushing the ink particles out of your system through waste disposal. But that takes time, so we recommend booking laser removal sessions anywhere from four to eight weeks apart from one another.
Every client is different, every tattoo is different, so the time it takes to ensure that your tattoo is completely removed may vary.
How Old is Your Tattoo?
Tattoos naturally fade over time. So an older tattoo is easier to remove than a tattoo you just had inked on your body a few months or years ago. The ink is fresher and, therefore, takes longer to deconstruct the pigments into smaller fragments that can be flushed through your system.
Ink Colors Can Affect the Process
The choice of pigments used in the application of the tattoo can have an affect on the number of sessions necessary for complete removal. Black pigments are the easiest to deconstruct and break down into smaller fragments that move through the bloodstream and exit the body. But colored pigments are often more stubborn and take longer to break down.
Location on the Body
The area of the body where your tattoo is located will also play a role in the length of the laser tattoo removal process. Since the body's natural disposal of the ink fragments help make it fade away, a tattoo that is nearest to the heart will likely require fewer sessions to remove. Ankle and foot tattoos may take longer to eliminate than tattoos located on the chest, back, or shoulders.
