Laser hair removal targets the unwanted hair at its source and prevents follicles from generating additional hair growth. Laser hair removal is only effective on hair follicles in the active growth phase. Each hair on your body grows at a different rate which is why multiple treatments are needed in order to target the follicles during their growth phase. The average patient is recommended a minimum of 6 to 12 treatments in the same area. Laser hair removal is only successful when treating hairs during their active growth stage. Each treatment session is spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart to target hairs during their active growth stage. Total Skin and Wellness uses FDA-approved laser technology and customizes the laser protocols to fit each patients’ unique skin type and hair. Our treatments are extremely safe and require no recovery time. The laser targets the pigment in hair follicles without damaging any surrounding skin tissue and the only side effects patients may experience are swelling, redness, and itchiness. These side effects typically last only a few hours after treatment and relieved with aloe vera gel.

Each client receives information about proper aftercare along with a detailed instruction sheet to take home after your appointment. As you prepare for your laser hair removal treatment, keep a few things in mind:
Avoid excessive sun exposure for at least a week following each treatment. After each laser treatment, clients should apply a broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher for ongoing maintenance.
Apply a cold compress or aloe vera to soothe the skin and help prevent side effects after treatment
Avoid hot water or steaming activities that soak the skin for at least 24 to 48 hours following a treatment.
Your hair will naturally begin to thin and shed over the weeks following each treatment. Gently exfoliate the treatment site with a washcloth to remove the dead hair. Never tug or pluck out hairs that are still connected to the follicle.
Hairs must be attached to the follicle in order to target them during their active growth stage. While shaving and trimming are acceptable methods for removing unwanted hair between treatments, plucking and epilating methods should be avoided at all costs.
